Institute of Korean Peninsula Studies

    Our research of the Korean Peninsula has a long history and strong capabilities. As early as 1964, Jilin University started research on North Korea in accordance with the requirements of the State Council and the State Education Commission. Since the establishment of the Northeast Asian Research Center, it has further integrated the research experience of the Korean Peninsula issue and formed a united research team in all sincerity and dedication which had a solid foundation. The research scope covers the politics, economics, cultures and international relations of the Korean Peninsula. The studies on Peninsula policies and other major theoretical and practical issues have produced a large number of remarkable academic results, and has always maintained a leading domestic and internationally renowned academic position.
    In recent years, Northeast Asian Research Center’s Institute of Korean Peninsula Studies has published 9 works in both Chinese and foreign languages. Representatives including Professor Xu Wenji’s "Korean Peninsula Current Situation and Countermeasures", Professor Zhang Baoren and others’ "Modern Korean Economy", Professor Zhang Huizhi et al. "Why the Ice of the Cold War Melt-Perspectives on the Korean Peninsula Policies of the Great Powers". More than one hundred papers have been published in Chinese and foreign journals such as "Contemporary International Relations", "Northeast Asia Forum", "Korea Research Essays", Korean Journal of Defense Analysis, East Asian Community Review. The Institute won one third prize of the Humanities and Social Science Achievements of the Ministry of Education. They have also provided a large amount of policy consultation and intellectual support to relevant national departments and local governments.
    Regarding the program application for the research of Korean Peninsula, the Northeast Asian Research Center has also obtained a lot of achievements. It has been engaged in significant research (commissioned) projects of the Ministry of Education, of National Social Science Fund projects, of the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base, and of provincial social sciences projects. Fund projects, projects commissioned by national ministries and local governments have all been approved. Outstanding representatives including the National Social Science Fund Significant Project commissioned by the Ministry of Education undertaken by Professor Zhang Huizhi with the subject of "Research on the Strategic Adjustment of Korea and the New Trends of the Peninsula Situation Development"; and the National Social Science Fund Project undertaken by Professor Piao Yingai with the subject of "China's Belt & Road Initiative" and South Korea's "New Economic Map of the Korean Peninsula" and "New Northern Policy" strategic docking research; the "13th Five-Year Plan" Think Tank Planning Fund Project of Jilin Province undertaken by Associate Professor Wang Xiaoke with the subject of "North Korea-South Korea Reconciliation Prospects and Its Impact on Jilin Prediction of the Provincial Impact on North Korea’s Border Trade".Currently, in the field of Korean Peninsula research, we have maintained close cooperative relations with Korean Peninsula research institutions in North Korea, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Russia and other countries, and carried out extensive and in-depth international exchange activities. The Center regularly organizes 3 to 5 international academic conferences on the Korean Peninsula issue every year, and organizes our researchers to participate in more than 50 related international conferences, and has achieved a good domestic and foreign academic reputation.
