The project "Changes in the Korean Peninsula and my country's Countermeasures" is a major project of the key research base of humanities and social sciences in universities. The Korean peninsula is the most sensitive and fragile area in the world, and it has been closely watched by the international community for a long time. The Korean Peninsula issue not only has a major impact on the security and stability of Northeast Asia, but also has a major national strategic interest. The changes in the situation on the Korean Peninsula involve a series of major issues such as nuclear proliferation, the game of major powers, the transformation of the peace mechanism, national reunification, the reconstruction of Northeast Asian regional order, and the construction of Northeast Asian regional cooperation mechanisms. The project research has great theoretical and practical significance.

The project is dedicated to follow-up research on the Korean Peninsula’s political and diplomatic, economic development, military security and other fields. It proposes an implementation plan for the transition of the Korean Peninsula’s suspension mechanism, transforms the contradictions and conflicts of major powers on the Korean Peninsula issue, and clearly integrates the Korean Peninsula into the Northeast. The research on institutional arrangements for sub-regional cooperation are forward-looking studies on major practical issues on the Korean Peninsula, and feasible countermeasures and suggestions are put forward to provide decision-making references for relevant state departments.

The project is led by Professor Zhang Huizhi, deputy director of the Northeast Asian Research Center, and a research team composed of 25 teachers. The project is based on international politics, international relations, international strategy, international political economics and other related theories. It evaluates the geo-strategic value of the Korean Peninsula in the changes in Northeast Asian order, and studies and judges the strategic game of China, the United States, Japan and Russia on the Korean Peninsula. The influence of the construction of the Northeast Asian regional order is to clarify the interaction mechanism between the Korean Peninsula and the changes in the international order in Northeast Asian, and to enrich and develop the geo-security theory and international order theory with Chinese characteristics.
