High-end Forum on National and Regional Studies in Northeast Asia - The Changing Situation on the Korean Peninsula and South Korea's Foreign Policy Held Successfully

    On November 23rd, 2022, the High-end Forum on The Changing Situation on the Korean Peninsula and South Korea's Foreign Policy was held at Jilin University. The lecture was jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center, Northeast Asian Studies College and the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies of Jilin University, and Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The Northeast Asian Studies College invited Professor Lee Sangman from the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University, South Korea, to give the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Professor Zhang Huizhi, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center and Director of the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies of Jilin University, with the participation of faculty and students of Northeast Asian Studies College both online and offline. At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Zhang Huizhi extended a warm welcome to Lee Sangman on behalf of Professor Wu Hao, Dean of Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

    Professor Lee is currently the Director of the China Center in the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) at Kyungnam University, holds a Ph.D. in political science from Dongguk Universit in South Korea and political economy from Renmin University of China, has served as an invited professor at Chungbuk National University and Northwest University of Political Science and Law in China, and is also the President of Korean-Chinese Association of Social Science Studies and Managing editor of the Korean-Chinese Association of Social Science Studies, and has conducted in-depth research on China's political economy, Northeast Asian strategy, and Sino-U.S. relations.

    Focusing on the situation in Northeast Asia, the foreign policy of the Korean Peninsula, neighboring countries and South Korea, Professor Lee conducted in-depth discussions on hot issues such as the prospect of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and put forward the concept of building an East Asian community free of nuclear threats.

    The content of the lecture was warmly received, and the participating faculty members and students had a wonderful discussion with Professor Lee. At the end of the event, Professor Zhang Huizhi said that Professor Lee's lecture covered the cutting-edge research in Korean academia and provided a new perspective for the students and faculty of Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University to deepen their understanding of the situation on the peninsula and broaden their research ideas.
