High-end Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies: Sino-Japanese 50 Years – The Historical Transformation of the World Economy and the Significance of Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia Successfully Held

    On December 9th, 2022, MATSUNO SHUJI, Professor Emeritus of the College of Economics at Ritsumeikan University, delivered an online keynote lecture on “Sino-Japanese 50 Years – The Historical Transformation of World Economy and the Significance of Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia”, at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University (JLU), the Northeast Asian Studies College of JLU, the Institute of Japanese Studies of JLU and the Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The lecture was presided over by Associate Professor Wang Yanjun, Vice Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

    Prof. MATSUNO SHUJI is a Professor Emeritus of the College of Economics at Ritsumeikan University. He once served as visiting professor at University of Sussex (Britain), Director of the International Institution Center, Director of the Institute of International Relations and Area Studies at Ritsumeikan University, and President of the Japan’s Association for Northeast Asia Regional Studies. His research areas are Japanese economic history and Northeast Asian regional economy.

    The lecture consisted of three parts, namely, reviewing the history of cooperation and exchange at the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties, analyzing the challenges of the future Sino-Japanese cooperation, and finally putting forward the viewpoint that the Sino-Japanese cooperation is of extreme importance with the profound changes of the world economic pattern. During the Q&A section, Prof. MATSUNO SHUJI offered detailed answers to questions raised by teachers and students. Associate Prof. Wang Yanjun made a summary and comments on the online lecture and expressed his gratitude to Prof. MATSUNO SHUJI for sharing his research results.

    The lecture is a session of the High-end Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies and also a part of lecture series on Japanese studies. The successful holding of the lecture has not only enhanced our understanding of the Sino-Japanese economic cooperation by broadening our academic horizon, but also taken on a positive significance for the academic exchange activities between the college and Japan.
