The "Challenges and Countermeasures of Sino-Japanese Third-Party Market Cooperation" project is a general project of the National Social Science Fund of China in 2019. In 2018, the Chinese and Japanese prime ministers exchanged visits, and the relations between the two countries showed signs of recovery after years of lows. Among them, an important economic achievement is that China and Japan have reached an important consensus to jointly develop third-party markets. China's National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry jointly signed the "Memorandum on China-Japan Third-Party Market Cooperation" in May of that year. This project systematically analyzes the causes, characteristics, types and impacts of challenges faced in the cooperation between China and Japan in the third-party market.

The research of this project is conducive to deepening the comprehensive understanding of the connotation and characteristics of the "third-party market cooperation" model, providing a new research perspective for analyzing Sino-Japanese economic and trade cooperation, and also helping to enrich the research content of international economic cooperation.

The project is headed by Professor Chen Zhiheng and 7 teachers from the Northeast Asian Research Center. The total project budget is 200,000 yuan. This project studies the challenges of third-party market cooperation between China and Japan, which will help China and Japan to seek advantages and avoid disadvantages, smoothly explore third-party markets, and propose countermeasures to meet challenges, and provide reference for choosing the right path and constructing the platform of China's third-party market cooperation. At the same time, this project provides model cases for the innovation of international economic cooperation modes.
