From May 15 to 17, 2026, the 2nd Academic Symposium of the Alliance for Independent Knowledge System of Chinese Gerontology was successfully held at Jiangnan University. Centered on the theme “Upholding Fundamentals While Pursuing Innovation, Advancing Independent Construction: Distinctive Concepts, Theoretical Development and National Strategies of Chinese Gerontology”, the symposium gathered over 100 experts and scholars from more than 20 universities and research institutions nationwide to discuss theoretical innovations in gerontology and the advancement of undertakings for the elderly.

At the Alliance General Assembly on May 16, after deliberation and voting, the Research Center for China’s Population Ageing and Economic & Social Development of Jilin University was officially admitted as a new alliance member.

Rooted in the construction of an independent knowledge system for gerontology and aligned with national strategies on population ageing, the symposium featured in-depth discussions on gerontological theoretical innovation, cutting-edge elderly care services and disciplinary system development, alongside presentations of phased outcomes of gerontology innovation initiatives. Through thematic forums and field visits, the event promoted profound integration between theoretical research and practical elderly care services.

The General Assembly completed the review of new member applications, voted to adopt the alliance’s work plan for the next phase, and clarified collaborative mechanisms and implementation pathways, establishing a solid platform for all member institutions to share resources and jointly tackle key research tasks.

Following its admission to the alliance, the center will further leverage its think tank strengths and interdisciplinary features, collaborate closely with all alliance members to jointly advance the disciplinary, academic and discourse systems of Chinese gerontology, continuously upgrade its research standards and public service capacity, and provide solid intellectual support for high-quality development of elderly care undertakings amid the advancement of Chinese-style modernization.
