To help teachers and students rationally understand and standardize the application of generative artificial intelligence and implement Jilin University’s requirement of full coverage of research integrity education, the School of Northeast Asian Studies, jointly with the Northeast Asian Research Center, the Institute of Social Sciences and the Research Institute of Science and Technology of Jilin University, held a special academic lecture on November 27, 2025. Entitled Methods and Skills for the Rational Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research, the lecture was delivered by Professor Song Xuan, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence and a national leading talent in scientific and technological innovation, and presided over by Professor Cui Jian, Vice Dean of the School of Northeast Asian Studies. More than 60 teachers and students from the school attended the event.

Starting with the "three booms and two slumps" development history of artificial intelligence, Professor Song pointed out that human civilization has entered a "singularity moment" featuring rapid technological iteration. He stressed the importance of seizing opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and empowering scientific research through the rational application of generative artificial intelligence. He further analyzed the potential risks and challenges accompanying the technology, including humanistic and ethical dilemmas, information security hazards, academic misconduct and excessive energy consumption. Meanwhile, he noted that generative AI is deeply integrated into scientific research at an unprecedented speed, boasting broad application prospects in literature retrieval, literature review composition, report writing and other research work. Focusing on Sino-US competition in the artificial intelligence field, Professor Song indicated that talents, computing power and data are the core decisive factors. Building talent advantages, constructing a sound computing power ecosystem and accumulating high-quality corpus resources are the key to gaining competitive edges, guiding students to conduct in-depth thinking on the future development of AI.

The interactive session featured a lively atmosphere. Teachers and students actively raised questions concerning the authenticity of AI-generated content, relevant supervision mechanisms and practical application difficulties, which were elaborately answered and thoroughly discussed by Professor Song. He particularly emphasized that the use of AI as an auxiliary tool in scientific research must be fully disclosed and declared. He advocated conducting in-depth and continuous dialogue with generative artificial intelligence to produce research outcomes with higher academic value and intellectual insights.

The lecture has deepened faculty and students’ understanding of the standardized application of generative artificial intelligence in scientific research, further consolidated the foundation of research integrity, and standardized academic behaviors. It plays a vital role in improving the school’s scientific research innovation system and cultivating interdisciplinary talents.
