On November 16, 2025, upon invitation by the Northeast Asian Studies Center and the School of Social Sciences of Jilin University, Researcher Yang Bojiang, Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a special report titledJapan’s Strategic Trajectory and China-Japan Relationsto faculty and students. The lecture was presided over by Professor Ba Dianjun, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Studies Center and Director of the Institute of International Politics.

The lecture revolved around two core themes: first, analyzing Japan’s reflection model on pre-war policies from the perspectives of historical cognition, interest orientation and ideological paths, as well as the root causes of its differentiated policies toward Asia and Western countries; second, sorting out the evolution of Japan’s politics, economy, diplomacy and security to reveal the gradual continuity of its policy directions. While identifying major current frictions between China and Japan, Researcher Yang also offered forward-looking insights on areas for repairing and sustaining bilateral ties.

During the Q&A session, Researcher Yang provided detailed responses to questions raised by faculty and students. In his closing remarks, Professor Ba extended gratitude and spoke highly of the lecture content. As a leading authority on Japanese studies, Researcher Yang drew on profound academic accumulation and sharp insight to clearly dissect Japan’s strategic logic and the underlying context of China-Japan relations, offering critical academic inspiration to the audience and greatly stimulating research interest in related fields.
