On September 20, the 8th Forum on Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation & High-Quality Development of Academic Journals convened at Jilin University. Co-hosted by the China Renmin University Press Data Center, Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, and Jilin University’s Northeast Asian Research Institute and Northeast Asian Research Center, the forum was jointly organized by the editorial departments of Northeast Asia Forum and Asia-Pacific Economy. Around 70 experts and scholars from over 20 universities, research institutions (including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institute of International Studies, and Fudan University) and more than 20 journal units (such as Contemporary Asia-Pacific and Studies in International Politics) attended the event. Wu Zhaoguang (Vice President of Fujian Academy of Social Sciences), Li Hongyu (Party Secretary of China Renmin University Press Data Center), and Wang Xiwei (Vice President of Jilin University’s School of Social Sciences) delivered opening remarks. The opening ceremony was chaired by Wu Hao, Dean of the School of Northeast Asian Studies & Northeast Asian Research Institute of Jilin University.

Wu Zhaoguang noted that Fujian Academy of Social Sciences focuses on key issues of Fujian’s reform, opening-up, and socioeconomic development, with strengths in Taiwan-related, overseas Chinese, and maritime studies. He added that the academy will form research teams on the Belt and Road Initiative, pilot free trade zones, and marine economic cooperation to serve national opening-up strategies.

Li Hongyu introduced the China Renmin University Press Data Center’s efforts to build a world-class academic resource platform, including leading the development of a digital innovation platform for China’s independent philosophy and social science knowledge system. She expressed hope that the forum would become a high-level platform for consensus-building and idea exchange, integrating academic journals with regional cooperation research.

Wang Xiwei emphasized that President Xi Jinping’s speech at the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting charts a course for Asia-Pacific cooperation and a community with a shared future. She called for forward-looking, systematic, and innovative research to support regional peace and development, urging academic journals to develop China’s independent knowledge system and amplify Chinese voices globally.

In the keynote session, leading scholars delivered reports on topics including high-quality Belt and Road development, U.S. trade policy, Chinese-style modernization and institutional opening-up, U.S. tariff impacts on ASEAN, and emerging geopolitical trends

Two sub-forums were held: “Evolution of the International Order and Asia-Pacific Regional Economic Cooperation” and “Innovative Journal Development.” Participants discussed Asia-Pacific cooperation, digital order, and East Asian economic models, while a journal-scholar dialogue explored advancing journal quality and academic collaboration.
