Professor Ba Dianjun Delivers Thematic Report at the Institute of Japanese Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

On July 28, the Institute of Japanese Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held an academic report conference themed Northeast Asian Security Situation in the Post-Trump 2.0 Era. Co-organized by the China-Japan Relations Research Center and the Diplomacy Research Office of the institute, the event invited Professor Ba Dianjun, Kuang Yaming Distinguished Scholar, Doctoral Supervisor, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center and Director of the Institute of International Politics at Jilin University, to deliver a special report. The conference was presided over by Researcher Lyu Yaodong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies, CASS.

The conference was attended by a number of experts and scholars, including Professor Cui Yan from the Institute of Japanese Studies, Liaoning University; Researcher Tang Yongliang (Director of the Research Management Office), Researcher Zhang Boyu (Director of the Political Research Office), Researcher Zhang Yong (Director of the Diplomacy Research Office), Researcher Bai Ruchun, Associate Researcher Chen Jingjing, Assistant Researcher Sun Jiashen, Assistant Researcher Guo Pei (Deputy Director of the Social and Cultural Research Office), Assistant Researcher Bian Xianle, Researcher Meng Xiaoxu (Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Strategic Research Office), and Associate Researcher Wang Yichen from the Institute of Japanese Studies, CASS. Postdoctoral researchers of the institute and doctoral students from Jilin University also participated in the event.

Centering on the theme Northeast Asian Security Situation in the Trump 2.0 Era, Professor Ba Dianjun conducted an in-depth analysis of the strategic layout of Trump’s Indo-Pacific strategy in the economic, military and technological fields. He pointed out that the profound changes unseen in a century mark a fundamental transformation of the international order and global power structure. The Trump 2.0 administration has exerted structural impacts on the development of global nuclear weapons, the interactive situation across the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea, and the current Northeast Asian geopolitical landscape, further aggravating the strategic dilemmas facing regional security.

Following the report, participating experts and scholars conducted in-depth and heated discussions on the security dynamics of Northeast Asia amid the Trump 2.0 era. Participants shared diverse viewpoints and yielded fruitful academic exchanges.
