Academic Conference on Major-Country Relations and Russia’s Internal and External Strategies in the Trump 2.0 Era Successfully Held at Jilin University

On July 9, 2025, the academic conference themed Major-Country Relations and Russia’s Internal and External Strategies in the Trump 2.0 Era was held at the Dongrong Conference Center of Jilin University. Co-organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center, the Northeast Asian Research Institute, the Russia Research Center of China Foreign Affairs University, the Northeast and Northeast Asian Research Institute, and the Russian Studies Institute of Jilin University, the opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhao Yang, Vice Dean of the Northeast Asian Research Institute of Jilin University. Ambassador Yue Bin, Special Envoy of the Russia Research Center at China Foreign Affairs University and former Chinese Ambassador to Georgia and Tajikistan, and Professor Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Research Institute of Jilin University, delivered opening speeches in sequence.

In his speech, Ambassador Yue Bin reviewed the development history and academic achievements of China Foreign Affairs University and its Russia Research Center. He pointed out that the conference represents an important academic cooperation between Jilin University and China Foreign Affairs University, as well as a key academic event for Russian studies. He expected participating scholars to offer insights for coping with the turbulent global landscape and further advancing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Professor Wu Hao affirmed the practical significance of the conference for analyzing emerging challenges, issues and opportunities facing China-Russia relations. He introduced Jilin University’s long-term academic accumulation and international cooperation achievements in Russian and Northeast Asian studies. He stated the university’s resolve to continue promoting academic exchanges and serving national strategic needs, and hoped the conference would serve as a vital platform for pooling wisdom and deepening interdisciplinary cooperation.

In the thematic discussion session, participants focused on four core topics: major-country relations and the Northeast Asian situation in the Trump 2.0 era, Russia’s domestic politics and diplomatic strategies in the new period, China-Russia economic and trade relations and regional cooperation under new circumstances, and regional situation changes and development prospects amid major-country competition and coordination. In-depth discussions and interactive exchanges were conducted on the adjustment of major-country relations amid profound global changes, the impact of Trump’s new policies on the Northeast Asian international landscape, and opportunities and challenges for China-Russia economic and trade cooperation.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Xu Bo, Director of the Russian Studies Institute of Jilin University, and Professor Liu Ying, Director of the Russia Research Center of China Foreign Affairs University, delivered conference summaries. Both sides noted that the conference closely tracked new trends in international relations. All experts shared diverse perspectives and generated valuable insights through in-depth academic dialogue. They expressed the willingness to strengthen long-term cooperation and jointly elevate the research level of Russian studies.

The conference carries important academic value for advancing regional and country studies and interpreting complex international situations. It not only promotes in-depth academic dialogue and collaboration in relevant research fields, but also contributes new theoretical insights and academic strength to the study of China-Russia relations.
