On July 6, 2024, the 2024 Working Conference and High-End Academic Forum for Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences under the "International Affairs, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Cluster" of the Ministry of Education, hosted by the Fujian-Taiwan Regional Research Center of Fujian Normal University, was held at Fujian Normal University. Mei Hong, Second-level Inspector of the Social Sciences Department of the Ministry of Education, Wang Changping, President of Fujian Normal University, and Wang Hongfu, Vice President of Yanbian University, attended the conference.
Participants included directors and relevant staff from 13 key humanities and social science research bases accredited by the Ministry of Education, namely the Center for American Studies of Fudan University, the Center for Russian Studies of East China Normal University, the Institute of Overseas Chinese Studies of Jinan University, the APEC Study Center of Nankai University, the Institute of South Asian Studies of Sichuan University, the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of Xiamen University, the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, the Center for Korean Peninsula Studies of Yanbian University, the Center for Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta Studies of Sun Yat-sen University, the Center for European Studies of Renmin University of China, the Fujian-Taiwan Regional Research Center of Fujian Normal University, and the Northeast Asia Research Center of Jilin University.
During the conference, directors of each base delivered speeches on the latest progress and challenges in base development, and engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on specific topics including the planning and future development of the Ministry of Education’s key humanities and social science research bases. Professor Ba Dianjun, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asia Research Center of Jilin University, presented a work report covering the research center’s achievements in recent years, existing shortcomings and future work plans.
At the closing session, Inspector Mei Hong from the Social Sciences Department of the Ministry of Education delivered a targeted concluding address. While acknowledging the fruitful outcomes achieved by all research bases, she put forward relevant requirements for their future development.
