On November 27th, the 2021 Annual Conference of Jilin Provincial Population Association was successfully held by Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University (JLU) and the China’s Population Aging and Economic and Social Development Research Center of JLU. The annual conference is about the Northeast China population and economic and social development under the new situation, aiming to promote the development and innovation of research in demography, which is of great significance to strengthen the academic exchanges and discipline construction of demography and related disciplines between universities and research institutions in our province.
The conference heard and adopted the work report and financial report of the fifth association, the Jilin Provincial Population Association Charter and the Election Methods for the Sixth Council, and elected and approved the candidates for the sixth term of directors, executive directors, secretary-general, vice president and president.
Jiang Guomin, former Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Jilin Province and Executive Director of the fifth Jilin Population Association, reported the work and financial report of the fifth association.
The conference elected Professor Yu Xiao, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center of JLU, as the sixth president of the Jilin Provincial Population Association. At the meeting, President Yu Xiao expressed his gratitude for the trust of the leading institution of the Jilin Provincial Population Association, thanked the previous leading institution for its hard work and efforts for the association, and looked forward to the next step of the work of it. The Association will continue to play its due role and provide relevant intellectual support to government departments such as the Health Commission of Jilin Province and the Department of Civil Affairs, he added.
In the afternoon’s forum, six experts and scholars shared the latest research results on topics such as population development and revitalization of Northeast China, population distribution, elderly care and childcare, and the participating experts and scholars carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions on the above topics. Finally, President Yu Xiao made a concluding speech, who expressed thanks to all experts and scholars for actively participating in the academic exchanges during this forum, and said that he would continue to play the role of Jilin Provincial Population Association as a platform to promote academic exchanges and discipline development in demography and related disciplines.
