Humanities and Social Science Young Scientist Program of Ministry of Education: Study on the Spatial Differentiation and Local Effects Of Migratory Population in Hainan Province

    Study on the Spatial Differentiation and Local Effects of Migratory Population in Hainan Province (20YJC840005) is a 2020 Humanities and Social Science Young Scientist Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. In view of the rapid growth of migratory population in China, it is urgent to carry out systematic scientific research on seasonal cross-regional population migration to clarify the new characters and problems of population migration in the new era.

    Based on the attribute character, spatiotemporal migration character and spatial distribution pattern of migratory population in Hainan Province, this study explores the spatial differentiation and formation mechanism of migratory population in Hainan Province, and expounds on the decision-making process and spatiotemporal behavior of microscopic individuals in destination selection and seasonal migration in Hainan Province. Taking migratory population as research subject, it comprehensively analyzes its local effects, and explore and measures the positive economic and social effects and possible negative impacts of increasing consumption and expanding employment. This program also studies the spatial distribution differences of migratory population and the effects and impacts of local effects on Hainan's social and economic development, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for Hainan Province to actively cope with the Era of Migratory Population.

    The program is headed by Chen Xi of the Northeast Asian Research Center with a total budget of 80,000 yuan. Analyzing the migratory population from a spatial perspective, it has expanded the spatiotemporal process and local effects of population migration, and conducted in-depth analysis of the differentiated colony characteristics and microscopic mechanisms of migratory populations with different attributes from the perspective of individual’s behavior decision-making and spatiotemporal selection, enriching the research on population migration theory and floating pattern.
