On October 22, 2021, Northeast Asian Studies College, Northeast Asian Research Center, the Institute of Korean Peninsula Studies of Jilin University (JLU) and Kyung Hee University of Korea jointly held an online conference on New Development of Northeast Asia and the Future of Sino-ROK Cooperation.
Professor Cui Jian, Deputy Dean of Northeast Asian Studies College of JLU, Professor Kim Junyub, Dean of Institute of International Regional Studies of Kyung Hee University, delivered opening speeches respectively, and Professor Wu Hao, Dean of Northeast Asian Studies College of JLU, made wrap-up remarks for the meeting.
With three main topics of “Major-Country Relations and New Changes in the Regional Situation in Northeast Asia”, "New Trends of Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia" and "Relations between the Korean Peninsula and Neighboring Countries", the meeting gathered twenty experts and scholars from Jilin University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shandong University, Kyung Hee University, Kyonggi University and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH). Both Chinese and Korean scholars provided full insights and in-depth discussions on international relations in Northeast Asia under Sino-US competition, the North Korean nuclear issue and the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia.
This conference is an important achievement of the cooperation and exchange between Northeast Asian Studies College of JLU ( former Institute of Northeast Asian Studies) and Kyung Hee University. Both sides pledged to take the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Northeast Asia College and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea as an opportunity to continue to deepen academic cooperation between the two institutions, expand the exchange platform for Chinese and Korean scholars, and work together to consolidate Sino-ROK relations and maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
