High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies- "Korea Model for Economic Development" Successfully Held

    On November 15th, 2022, the lecture " Korea Model for Economic Development" of the High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies was successfully held at Jilin University. The lecture was jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and the Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The College of Northeast Asian Studies invited Professor Kim Dong Heon, a professor of the Department of Economics, Korea University, to deliver the lecture, which was hosted by Professor Xuan Chunji of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and attended by Postgraduate students and doctoral students majoring in World Economics and International Politics of the Northeast Asian Studies College, as well as students from the School of Administration. At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Xuan Chunji, on behalf of Prof. Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, extended a warm welcome and high appreciation to Professor Kim Dong Heon.

    Prof. Kim Dong Heon received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego in 2000. He joined the School of Economics at the University of Manchester, UK as an Assistant Professor in 2000, and moved to Korea University in 2006. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Economics at Korea University and the former Dean of the Department of Economics. His main research areas are macro-finance, macroeconomics and applied econometrics.

    In the first part of the lecture, Pro. Kim selected indicators such as GDP growth rate, inflation rate, investment savings rate, and unemployment rate to describe the development of the Korean economy; in the second part of the lecture, Pro. Kim showed that Korea's development cannot be achieved without the support of economic policies and pointed out that each developing country must choose its own development path according to its own national conditions; in the last part, Prof. Kim introduced the challenges for the future development of the Korean economy, namely, the aging population will have a negative impact on the Korean economy.

    During the question and answer session, all the students who attended the lecture asked questions and Prof. Kim answered them wholeheartedly. The atmosphere was lively. At the end of the event, Professor Xuan Chunji said that Prof. Kim's lecture was extremely wonderful and his research on the topic was of great value, which benefited the faculty and students of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. She also expressed her hope that Prof. Kim would be a guest at Jilin University in the future for further exchange and discussion.
