On June 11th, 2021, Professor Lee Sang-man of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University gave an online academic report on the theme of A Third Perspective on China-North Korea Relations at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center, the Northeast Asian Studies College and the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies of Jilin University. Wu Hao, Deputy Director of Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, attended the forum and made a speech. Deputy Director Wu Hao said that this is the first high-end academic lecture held after the establishment of Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and it is honored to have Professor Lee Sang-man to give the first lecture, hoping that students can fully communicate and gain something. The lecture was hosted by Professor Zhang Huizhi, Director of the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies of Jilin University.
Professor Lee Sang-man is currently the Director of the China Center in the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) at Kyungnam University. He has a double doctorate in political science from Dongguk University in Korea and political economy from Renmin University of China, has been an invited professor at Chungbuk University in Korea and Northwest University of Political Science and Law in China, and is also the President of Korean-Chinese Association of Social Science Studies and Managing editor of the Korean-Chinese Association of Social Science Studies, and has conducted in-depth research on China's political economy, Northeast Asian strategy, and Sino-U.S. relations.
Professor Lee Sang-wan's report made an in-depth analysis of the Korean Peninsula issue, especially the development process, characteristics and prospects of China-North Korea relations, and put forward unique insights. He stressed that the Korean Peninsula issue is a hot spot in Northeast Asia, and it has an important impact on peace and development in Northeast Asia in the past, at present or in the future. The content of the report was well received, and the teachers and students of our institute had a wonderful discussion with Professor Lee Sang-man on the theme of the report, and the students agreed that the lecture was very beneficial and broadened their academic horizons.
The Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies High-Level Forum is a series of high-end academic lectures jointly planned by the Northeast Asian Research Center and the Northeast Asian Studies College, which will invite renowned scholars from Northeast Asian countries to present their research results on the political, economic and social themes of Northeast Asia region or countries, bringing the latest international academic information and diverse perspectives to students and faculty who are interested in Northeast Asian studies.
